With anti-diesel sentiment unlikely to dissipate anytime soon, we expect the price of platinum to continue to trade at a discount to palladium until 2020 when a combination of demand and supply factors should push it back to a slight premium. However, the spread will remain narrow until the 2030s when platinum’s key role in transport electrification will see it significantly outperform its sister metal.
