The weakness of today’s Peruvian GDP data supports our belief that the economy is entering a phase of permanently slower growth as the mining boom of the past decade fades. Ample scope for a policy stimulus should, at least, help to ensure a soft landing for the economy. In contrast to the consensus we think that interest rates are more likely to fall than rise over the next year.
