Chile's economy slowing, but imbalances still widening

Today’s activity data provide further evidence that Chile’s economy is losing speed. Yet while the headline numbers will grab most of the attention, we are more concerned about the relentless widening of imbalances in the drivers of growth. Notably, the rapid pace of consumer spending threatens to limit the space for near-term policy support and could sow the seeds of a more abrupt slowdown ahead.
