Financial markets in Brazil had already had a good month, but this week’s news that the government plans to privatise a host of state-controlled enterprises has helped to push the equity market to a near-record high. Argentine stocks have also recorded strong gains this month, following broadly market-friendly results in Congressional primary elections, but Venezuelan assets have continued to sell-off as President Maduro pushes the country further away from democracy.
