Renminbi still likely to weaken further against the US dollar

The appreciation of China’s currency against the US dollar this year, while small, has confounded market fears of a substantial devaluation. Nonetheless, even if the PBOC continues to target broad stability on a trade-weighted basis, this would still be consistent with some renewed weakness against the dollar if, as we anticipate, the US currency resumes its climb against other majors.
