Recession risks mounting

The latest data from the euro-zone suggest that the economy is at risk of entering a technical recession. Leaked information revealing that the German economy contracted by around 1.0% q/q in Q2, together with weak monthly figures from the other major economies, suggests that total euro-zone GDP probably fell in Q2. Meanwhile, after a sharp decline in July, the business surveys now point to falling activity at the start of Q3.
