The US Federal government shutdown, and subsequent reopening, seems to have had little impact on commodity markets. If anything, the prospect of an extended period of monetary stimulus has supported the prices of precious metals, particularly gold. Elsewhere, better economic data from Europe and Asia have raised hopes of a revival in demand, but increases in supply remain the dominant factor for many commodities.
