Manufacturing PMIs (Oct 13.)

Both PMI surveys released today suggest that China’s manufacturing sector picked up at the beginning of Q4. But in each case the breakdown of the survey paints a less rosy picture than the headline figure suggests. In particular, the strength of the official PMI was driven by large firms, with smaller firms struggling. And with the government now trying to rein in credit, slower growth across the whole of the manufacturing sector lies ahead.
