The latest data for industrial production and retail sales undershot expectations but a closer look at the underlying data on output volumes suggests that the recent recovery in economic activity has extended into Q4, helped by a rebound in private sector investment. We think China’s economy should continue to hold up well in the short-run but that recent props to growth may fizzle out next year.
