The number of Chinese tourists travelling abroad continues to rise rapidly. The main destination countries recorded an average increase in visitor arrivals from China of nearly a third last year. Outbound travel over the recent Chinese New Year period also appears to have been very strong. Within China, spending during the holiday period was 11% higher than last year, a slightly faster rate of increase than in 2015. All in all, there is nothing in the tourism and holiday spending figures to suggest that households are struggling.
