The performance of US equities since President Trump’s latest round of tariff threats suggests that investors continue to believe that foreign firms have more to lose from trade conflicts than those in the US. But we still think that the relative resilience of US equities is unlikely to last, even though the US’ aggressive protectionist stance doesn’t look likely to change any time soon.
