By highlighting the recent “firming” in activity at the same time as emphasising that there is scope to cut interest rates further, the Reserve Bank of Australia has managed to support confidence without strengthening the dollar. A renewed weakening in economic conditions and a further fall in inflation, however, will mean that more than just words will be needed to support the economy.
