The rebound in the Westpac measure of consumer confidence in February and the surge in the NAB measure of business confidence in January suggests that any lingering concerns over the outright fall in GDP in the third quarter of last year have well and truly passed. Consumer confidence is now back at levels consistent with consumption growth remaining decent, but not spectacular, in the coming quarters.
