Downbeat forecasts, Central bankers, plagues of locusts

We published our latest Africa Economic Outlook this week, laying out below-consensus views on South Africa and Angola, but more optimistic forecasts for Ghana, Kenya, and Ethiopia. We think that Kenyan policymakers will follow this week’s rate cut with another 25bp cut later this year,  whereas Angola’s central bank (which held rates this week) will have to tighten policy. Finally, while a plague of locusts is rampaging across Northern Kenya, reports suggest that the damage to economically-vital southern counties will be small.
