Virág Fórizs
Virág Fórizs joined Capital Economics in 2019 and is an economist on our Emerging Markets team, focusing on Sub-Saharan Africa. Virág’s work includes research into how global commodity markets shape the region’s economic outcomes, how political risk informs growth dynamics and monetary policymaking, and the role of international creditors in managing debt loads. She has been recognised as a leading analyst of the region, including being awarded most accurate Nigeria economic forecaster by Focus Economics in 2020. Virág is often quoted in global and local media, including in the Financial Times, Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, Reuters and Al Jazeera.
Prior to joining Capital Economics, she worked at Verisk Maplecroft, the European Commission, and the United Nations. Virág holds an undergraduate degree in economics and political science from the University of Toronto, and a master’s degree in international and development economics from Yale University.
