Shilan Shah
Deputy Chief Emerging Markets Economist
Job title: Deputy Chief Emerging Markets Economist
Education: University College London, University of Warwick
Start date: April 2012
Why did you apply to join Capital Economics? I have always been interested in macroeconomics and its links to global financial markets. Capital Economics is ideal in that regard as our research is macro-driven, but with clear implications for markets. The calibre of economists was a major pull factor too.
What areas of the business have you worked on during your time at Capital Economics?
Africa, India and pan-EM issues
What is the most rewarding or surprising aspect of your current role?
I enjoy the balance between researching longer-term issues and responding to immediate, market-moving events. The flexibility is a big benefit too – I have been lucky enough to work on various different teams and in different offices, including spending seven years in Singapore.
