While the Bank of Canada kept its policy rate
unchanged at 1.75% on Wednesday, there
were hints that an interest rate cut is coming. In his
opening statement at the press conference, Governor
Stephen Poloz told us that “the Governing Council
considered whether the downside risks to the outlook
were sufficient at this time to warrant a more
accommodative monetary policy, as a form of
insurance against those risks.”
