Why did you apply to join the Capital Economics intern/student scheme?
My deep interest in Macroeconomic research motivated me to apply for the internship. Throughout university, I have always been fascinated by how macroeconomic theory can be applied into the real world. Additionally, I understood that Capital Economics is a highly reputable company, and after reading such positive reviews online, I was keen to apply. I was eager to learn under seasoned senior economists who could provide me with invaluable insights into the macroeconomic world.
What have you worked on while on the scheme?
While working on the scheme I have been working on the commercial property team for most of my time. A significant portion of my role involved supporting senior economists with their publications. This included gathering and analysing data, as well as creating various charts that were integral to their work. My long-term project focused on identifying mispriced industrial commercial property yields in the Eurozone. During this project I compiled data, created charts, and conducted an in-depth analysis on the relevant data. The findings from this project will be used by senior economists for future publications. Additionally, I had the opportunity to shadow and assist several other teams. This experience allowed me to gain valuable insights into the diverse work other teams do and how they operate.
What is the most rewarding or surprising aspect of your role at Capital Economics?
The most rewarding and surprising aspect of my role at Capital Economics has been the incredible opportunity to develop a wide range of skills in such a short period. Engaging with numerous senior and experienced economists has provided me with profound insights into the macroeconomic world. I have witnessed firsthand how the theories learned during my education directly links into the real world. This practical application has not only deepened my understanding but also enhanced my appreciation for the field.
