Durable goods orders were held down last month by a plunge in volatile defence orders, but the surge in underlying capital goods orders and shipments suggests business equipment investment growth is beginning to rebound. That’s another clear sign the Fed’s rate cuts are feeding through to stronger economic growth, but that recovery would be quickly curtailed in the event of a widespread domestic coronavirus outbreak.
