The big drop in durable goods orders last month was once again driven mainly by plunging transport orders with underlying capital goods orders falling more modestly. Together with the drop in continuing jobless claims and more encouraging details in the revised first quarter GDP figures also released today, that suggest the risks to our forecast that GDP will fall at a 40% annualised pace in the second quarter now lie to the upside.
