Recent declines in Norwegian house prices have caused some concern, but we think that the worst fears are overblown. After all, prices are falling for the “right” reasons. And we do not expect a wave of mortgage defaults that would trouble the banks or wider economy. That said, with household debt very high, there is clearly a risk that a much sharper decline in house prices will weigh on consumer spending.
