Industrial Production (May)

Industrial output in Japan bounced back strongly in May, although not by as much as firms themselves had anticipated. The rapid recovery in vehicle production was the main driver, and is expected to support further gains in June. But this is unlikely to be enough to prevent a sharp contraction in GDP in Q2 and, more worryingly, firms expect the rebound to fade at the start of the third quarter.
