Debt relief stop gaps, South Africa’s jabs

A flurry of global action this week to help improve low-income countries’ balance sheets is likely to provide only short-term relief and, in the meantime, efforts to provide longer-lasting help to debt distressed economies continue to face major hurdles. In South Africa, the announcement of a large vaccine order will allow the country to immunise much of its population quicker than regional peers, but we suspect that the inoculation campaign will still be too slow to fuel a rapid economic recovery.
